WW2 German Officer Sword – Rare, Long Mounted Variant.
This sword is very long 35″ blade and 40″ overall. It is E. Pack & Sohne marked. Blade is bright with one very dark spot. Minor play in handle. Scabbard has minor ding and shows wear, and is marked “542” at throat. We don’t see swords this long very often.
This particular variant, crafted by E. Pack & Sohne in Solingen, boasts exceptional craftsmanship and attention to detail.
The sword features a distinctive “dove head” pommel, which is characterized by an ornate, intricately designed hilt in the shape of a dove’s head, symbolizing peace. Party emblem to one side of cross guard. The hilt is adorned with fine engravings and is made of brass showcasing the artisan’s skill.
The blade of this sword is atypically long signifying it is a rarer mounted variant, The blade is finely forged from high-carbon steel.
The mounted variants are very rare as horse riding officers were not common, furthermore, they would need to be a second sword for non horse-ridden parades, thus increasing the cost spent.
